Lappstaden, the Sami church town, is the largest collection of Sami forest huts in central Arvidsjaur. Lappstaden is one of Arvidsjaur's major landmarks. When the northern countries got their first churches in the 17th century, the Sami people needed accommodation when they attended the mandatory church services. The locals built several forest Sami huts to accommodate the nomadic Sami people.
The Gallejaur Nature and Culture Reserve is located in the southern part of the municipality of Arvidsjaur. In Gallejaur, the 17th century is very well preserved, showing what life was like back then and how people lived in the Mittelland region at that time.
